Chairman Bill Falconer said that Salmon's abilities and experience "clearly put her ahead of an excellent range of candidates".
Salmon, a chartered accountant and business consultant, has been a director of Restaurant Brands since its formation in 1997. She took up the helm following the resignation of Jim Collier in August.
Falconer said Salmon has since made substantial progress in re-focusing the company on its goal of sustainable sales and earnings growth.
Salmon said she was delighted to have the chance to finish the work she had begun to get the company back on course.
Salmon's previous experience includes chief executive of several companies including Group Rentals and the Elleslie Flower Show.
The announcement was made after the sharemarket closed. Restaurant Brands shares were unchanged at $1.12.
