The Casino Control Authority has released an interim finding in favour of granting an application to the company to build the development adjacent to its Auckland complex, and expanding the existing gaming area at the complex.
The approval is subject to finalisation of appropriate conditions.
Plans for the $37 million centre include a banquet room with seating for up to 1,000 people as well as car parking and retail facilities.
Construction is expected to take 12 months.
Approval of the gaming area expansion allows for an additional 230 gaming machines and 12 gaming tables.
Building will start on the new gaming area after the conference centre development and is expected to take six months to complete.
Sky City was up ten cents in Wednesday morning trading at $11.00.
