One of
the most interesting Otago Biotech's - A2 Milk - has announced plans to list on
the NZAX with a rights issue following a recent placement of shares to an
institution at $0.10.
Ordinary milk contains significant quantities of the
beta Casein A1 (a Casein component of milk). This molecule has been
implicated in promoting diabetes, heart conditions and even promoting Autism in
children!
The
company makes money by licensing its genetic test for the A2 "gene" and has the
branding of "A2 milk". A2 milk herds produce minimal beta Casein A1 - this
is milk as it was 10,000 years ago - and still is in certain African
tribes. (Initial studies pinpointed the benefits of A2 milk by observing
that high milk consumption amongst certain african tribes produced none of the
clinical conditions reported in other high milk consumption
societies).
The
good news is that the beta Casein's are destroyed in the cheese making process -
so your occasional slice of Rochefort is safe!
Full
commercialisation is very close - unlike other biotech's. No expensive FDA
trials to navigate through.
A very
interesting company for your consideration and comment.
