United States of America   Gambling statistics  University of Illinois.

States:  Gambling is the fastest growing industry in the USA it is a $40 Billion business that draws more customers than Baseball, or Movies.

The University of Illinois estimates that State Governments pay $3.00 in costs to social agencies and the criminal justice system for every $1.00 of revenue they take in from the Casinos.
So the Casinos earn $40 Billion revenue for the states.
The USA taxpayer pays  $80 Billion of their hard earned taxes for the privledge of the ' Little entertainment flutter ' you speak of.
At present I have not been able to obtain the Australian Stastistics. When I do you shall be the first to hear of it.

John Maynard Keynes Stated:
" When the capital developement of a country becomes the by-product of the activities of a casino, the job is likely to be ill-done. "
