5 hours pre-paid SkyNetGlobal WiFi service with every Centrino™ mobile technology enabled laptop sold SYDNEY, February 2nd, 2004: SkyNetGlobal (ASX SKG), Harvey Norman and Intel have teamed up to promote wireless broadband communications. Commencing today, every laptop computer powered by Intel’s Centrino™ mobile technology sold at Harvey Norman during the next three months will include 5 hours of free access to the SkyNetGlobal WiFi service.

SkyNetGlobal is Australia’s leading provider of public broadband wireless services based on
802.11 wireless technology, known as WiFi. SkyNetGlobal’s service enables subscribers to send and receive emails and surf the net on their wireless enabled laptop or PDA at 160 hotspots around Australia and at 2,500 hotspots globally.

Intel Centrino™ mobile technology includes a new mobile processor, related chipsets and 802.11 wireless network capabilities that have been designed and tested to work together. In addition to wireless network capability, the technology enables extended battery life, thinner and lighter notebook PC designs and outstanding mobile performance.

Intel’s national marketing manager for Australia and New Zealand, Phillip Dows, said: “This is a great value add for our customers allowing anyone who purchases a laptop powered by Intel’s Centrino™ mobile technology at Harvey Norman to experience the benefits of accessing SkyNetGlobal’s public hotspots at no charge.”

The National Product and Marketing Manager of Harvey Norman Mr. Colin Wright said: “More and more computers are now being shipped with Intel’s Centrino™ technology as standard equipment, which means the demand for use of public WiFi hotspots, including airport lounges, hotels, convention centers and cafes, is likely to grow at an even faster rate than the current high levels. Once a traveler, particularly a business traveler, has experienced the benefits of wireless communication on the move it is a convenience they will value greatly.”

The CEO of SkyNetGlobal, Jonathan Soon said: “The offer is an ideal introduction to wireless communications for new laptop purchasers and SkyNetGlobal expects to gain many new long-term customers as a result of this promotion. We are entering a period where public hotspot communications will move from niche to mainstream and this joint initiative by one of the biggest names in retail and the world’s largest chipmaker will help fuel that process in Australia.”
