[sharechat] MacDunk and the TAB.
I understand the point you're making about TAB pricing discrepancies
allowing you to make a profit regardless at times. You didn't mention
whether they were fixed TAB prices or variable depending on the betting
pool.
I used to bet on the horses professionally in Australia, but I used bookies
and not the TAB which provided much better net prices. I managed in those
days 30% on turnover. In NZ they didn't have any legal bookies, and so I
used the TAB for a while. I had 3 PC's, a broadband internet connection, and
linked accounts to the TAB's in NZ, ACT, NSW, QLD, VIC, SA and WA.
There were plenty of country and inter-state pricing discrepancies which
would allow you to obtain a better price for any give horse, and profit
regardless - at least that what it seemed in theory. I assume you have not
yet tested out your theory in practice?
I noticed after I made my bets, a few minutes before the race closed, that
my actual profit was only about 1% on turnover, which was a lot less than I
had calculated. The reason being a considerable amount of money is bet on
the TAB in the last minute which changes the betting pools, and hence the
payout pricing. Later, I made my bets in the last 20 seconds before closing
on the internet, which did increase my profits.
However, the final payout pricing still was often quite different (for the
worse) than the pricing 20 seconds before I made my bets, and so I gave it
all away as a lost unreliable cause, and a suspicion that all is not
necessarily above board with the various TAB's pricing systems.
I would be interested to see what you achieve in practice rather than in
theory. It is common knowledge that racing and sports betting NZ/OZ TAB
prices vary and you can make a profit at times. The fact that a pile of
idiots are not doing so in practice, is probably because they've already
found out the hard way that it doesn't work..
So test out your theory MacDunk in the real world, and let us know how
successful you were.
Lazy Haggis.
