I also hope your friend recovers Hoop. Little consolation I'm sure - but at least there was somewhere for her to go when the original op went wrong. Understand your concerns, as I have a family member who went through similar dramas - although for a much less serious issue.

However, I have to agree with macdunk. Business has to create the jobs so that they and their employees can pay the taxes to fund the (always inadequate) health & education systems. They would be even more inadequate otherwise.
