This time last year, sharemilkers purchasing thier
first farm were budgetting on a payout of $4.00/kg.
Last week Fonttera announced that the payout would
be, at best $3.60/kg milk solids. With the average dairy farm
producing around 100,000 kg these young farmers have taken a $40,000
hit.
I don't see the dollar taking a sharp fall. I think
it's more likely to continue appriciating against the U.S. $
There is a possibility that some highly geared
dairy farmers could hit the wall next season
