Cca treated wood is now being banned in the fifteen member countries
of the european union by june the 30th 2004. what does that
mean to us on the markets and who cares. Our tanalised decks
pergolas even the barbie table will be banned. I expect nz and oz
will follow suit they being the only two countries left in the developed
western countries still useing it. What must happen then is new
building codes, and hopefully new building products made from wood that
stops the rot, and allows the use of pine. I do expect we are in for
a wild ride on the market, with forestry and building products.
There will be losers on the way, but I expect as always someone will
have a decent win. The only tanalised timber allowed over
there, is fence posts only, not even marine waters is allowed its
use. I hate to think of it, but my own little plantation might
end up wiping the backsides of the
known world. |
