[sharechat] Corporate Speak
>From time to time in reading financial documents, you come across
these amazing euphemisms. Here is one on 'risk management' and
'hedging'.
A comment on 'price risk' as printed
"Our strategy entails managing risk at the portfolio level through
the adoption of a 'self insurance' model, by taking advantage of the
natural hedges provided through the scale, diversity and flexibility
of the portfolios as the principal means for managing risk."
Translation:
"For our business hedging is bollocks. We don't have a bar of
it."
.....and the people who write these reports wonder why 90% of the
people they send them to don't read them, because they can't
understand the language used! Anyone else out there got some
examples of 'corporate speak' to share?
