I love these nice long term charts. thanks again for making these great
resources available.
A comment though, and a warning I guess to those using the visual
messages we can often get from charts such as this one. The visuals can
be very misleading. Your comment on 1987 [compared to say say, 1930] is
certainly reinforced by looking at the chart, but look more closely! The
vertical axis on the chart has undergone some drastic scale changes. The
drop in 1987 was from around 2,600 to around 1700 [about 900 points].
The drop in 1929/30 was from around 590 to 40 [a drop of only 550
points!!!]

By the way do you know where I might get a long term chart on gold
prices?

Attached is a weekly chart of the Dow for the last 87 years.
Technically it is still in a long-term uptrend.
This chart certainly puts the 1987 crash into perspective!
