MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 20 (Reuters) - Aerogen Inc. (AEGN) said on Monday
it received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to market its
Aeroneb nebulizer system for treatment of respiratory disorders.
The Mountain View, California-based company said the system converts liquid
medicine to an aerosol form to treat patients both on and off mechanical
ventilators.
The company said most patients on a ventilator need treatment for
respiratory disorders, but drug treatment is typically limited to small
volume nebulizers, metered dose inhalers or ultrasonic nebulizers.
Aerogen said its Aeroneb Pro can be used with all nebulizer solutions
approved for use with general-purpose nebulizers and can be used with any
ventilator system in the hospital. It can also be used off the ventilator to
treat patients anywhere in the hospital, including the emergency room.
Aerogen said it plans to launch the Aeroneb Pro in both the United States
and Europe in mid-year.
