Sorry, can't resist here. Must comment on this gold discussion. 

Snoopy's comments are of course quite fair and reasonable if you are
looking for low risk investment. A bigger cynic than I might 
even add --- boring!

Some of us are also interested in the excitement that the stock market
can often provide and the possible much greater returns from more
speculative plays.

I've always followed gold and saw what happened back in 1980.
It could happen again, and most of my gold positions have not been
taken in the past few weeks but have been held for a while. I'm feeling
happier about them as time goes on.

Phaedrus, it would be interesting to have your views. Can you possibly
provide a good long term chart on the physical gold price  [say 50
years] and comment on the trend over the past 2-5 years. T'would be
interesting.
