[sharechat] Briscoe Group - Investor Interview
The next Investor Interview is with Briscoe Group MD (NZSE: BGR), Rod Duke.
Briscoe Group is a listed retailing business comprising 28 Briscoes Homeware
stores and 11 Rebel Sport outlets. The company listed in December 2001 at a
40% premium to its offer price of $1.00. The IPO was heavily
oversubscribed. Managing director Rod Duke is the majority shareholder in
the company with 75% ownership. Another major shareholder is Harvey Norman
founder Gerry Harvey. 210 million shares are on issue. A large amount of
the money raised in the float is being spent on modernising the company's
homeware stores and opening new Rebel Sport stores. Operating revenue grew
16.4% for the 3 months ended January 27 to $87.9 million compared with sales
of $75.5 million for the same period last year. An after-tax profit of
$15.11 million was forecast in the company's prospectus for the year ended
January 2001, rising to $17.74 million the following year.
