I believe the PM's statement yesterday was probably aimed at achieving 2
things:
1) Stabilise the share price and thereby
give a message of confidence for AirNZ's financiers,
creditors & customers as to the viability of the airline and that
day-to-day airline business would be as usual, no matter what the share or
management structure might turn out to be.
2) A hint that even if statutary
management had to be imposed, this wasn't necessarily the end for
small shareholders, as their holdings could possibly be reconstituted
under a new ownership structure (even if in a diluted form).
