Hi Nick
I see bonds traded in US this morning and sold off, some to short term
yields not seen in decades....indicating equities will move lower.
According to cbsmarketwatch.com, the last 6 historical incidents (such
as gulf war) which were considered a major crisis, saw the markets sell
off 2-3% in the week after the event, and began recovering approx 3
months later. On the other hand, markets havent been closed for days
after the event. Like you, I wouldnt be surprised to see a rally of
sorts. If there is a patriotic type rally, I would expect it to be brief
volatile and a chance to lighten or go short. Difficult to see how big
firms like Boeing (BA) can not stop taking the market lower.
cheers
jesse
ps...if the FED cuts rate before Oct meeting to restore confidence, that
could fire things up too.
