Bonds is a subject that is more complex than it might first appear.  

You do have to get your timing right and if investing through a 
managed fund then last years performace is no indicator of what might 
happen in the future.  In fact, if a bond fund has done well over the 
past year there is a very good chance it will do badly over the next 
year and vica versa.
