Malcolm,
         A resident Australian trading Australian shares via a New Zealand 
broker!!!  Access is the cheapest NZ broker, with a flat rate of $29.50 per 
trade, but they charge 0.2% brokerage on Australian shares. In Australia, I 
deal with Sanfords (Perth) and pay 0.1% brokerage. Sanfords have live data 
(including market depth and market detail, which shows your position in the 
queue). This is free if you are happy to keep hitting the refresh button, but 
is available "streaming" (dynamic) for $75.90/month if you want. This would 
probably meet the needs of DR as per his recent inquiry.
 "Sam and Jerry"  ASB charges 0.3% for NZ shares and 1%(!) for Australian 
shares. Not an option for serious trading.
