Anne Williamson has become quite an icon on her views on the state of Russian financial affairs in the nineties. She has written a book called the 'The Rape of Russia' - in her words '....describes Russian history from the end of the Gorbachev era to April 2000. This was the period when ruthless Communist bosses ruling a decaying socialist economy were replaced by ruthless gangsters posing as "capitalists" aided by Western plunderers posing as "investors." '

 

She also has made speeches to the House of Representatives about this as well. A transcript is here if interested.
