"The volume following the announcement went up dramatically though."

Nick there was scarcely any volume (just one or two thousand shares) immediately following the announcement at 1.25pm. The dramatic increase in volume was all after 2pm. A gap of 35 minutes between the announcement and volume starting to flow indicates that all of the buying action was small investors subject to the 20 minute news-feed delay. The professionals sat on the sidelines.
