RIL & Hugh, I agree with many of your points.

This proposed merger seems like a knee-jerk reaction to a bad few years on
the NZSE, something that has little to do with the fact that the ASX-NZSE
are not together. Therefore the root causes are not being addressed by such
a move.

Unfortunately ideas like these seem to have a life of there own and can be
difficult to squash once they get going, whether they make any sense or not.
