Normally, if many foreign investors
expect the NZ currency to rise, one could see a rise in N Z
stocks.
Telecom used to be a familiar investment; it was
used to 'park' the cash. Once the top of the currency curve was reached,
they would leave, taking the dividends with them as well.
Seems that they could be attracted by the Euro. In
any case, a lot of them got hurt by the deeds of incompetent directors and
decisions of the stock exchange. Many were used to invest in the larger NZ
stocks and most of those have been sold.
This and the non existence of a government super
fund which could have bought some shares, tend to keep share values
lower.
And as everybody knows, a second private
property will not be taxed.
