Re: [sharechat] What future forests? hogwash.
Frankly its a load of tired old hogwash that keeps on getting repeated.
There's a market for wood at cheap prices i.e. what they are now or
lower but it may be a declining market. I pointed out a news item from
the US in sharechat earlier this year that said that concrete, bricks,
aluminium, plastics, steel were all moving in on wooden joinery's market
and other wood markets in the US. Its also interesting to speculate on
what became of the great projected paper shortage which was going to
have happened already - presumably recycling plus the IT revolution
where people store info electronically rather than on paper and transfer
it electronically plus the inroads of TV/video/Internet into newspapers
and magazines.
My opinion is that the people who keep running adverts on long term
forest partnerships which are going to yield 200% returns in 30 years
time are either soft in the head or tantamount to fraud. Have a searching
look at their faces and see if you think they will last another 30 years -
whether they will be the ones fronting up to apologise to you that they
made a mistake just when you're looking for your super.
The article doesn't have any evidence; its an expression of hope just
like all the other ones we've seen on this subject over the last 30 years.
Can anyone point me to the millionaires who have become rich from
forestry over the last 30 years?
When will they ever learn? (that forests are a commodity, like sugar,
wheat, wool) When will they evvvver learn.....
Projected, schmojected, its a load of bullshit, and bullshit is still
bullshit
whether its put out by FAO 3rd world bureaucrats with soft degrees or
someone with a vested interest in flogging it off or Paul Anthony Grey.
cheers,
Hugh
