In kicking the tires of Telecom, as a customer I can tell you that every time it rains heavily the cable from my place to the exchange becomes waterlogged which causes my internet connection to drop out. Also the local exchange is so ancient that it is unable to handle 56K modems correctly. Local users of dial up connections to the internet have to throttle back their 56k modems to get reliable service.
If Telstra-Saturn establishes a local service, it will pick a large number of customers who are unhappy with Telecom's level of service.
