Shares become popular talking points when events dictate it. Not usually before.
'Popular' stocks in 'glamour' industries with 'glamour' management will always rate higher in discussion. And their valuations reflect it. It's the 'boring' stocks in 'boring' industries with 'dull' management that you are more likely to pick a bargain. And studies have proven it. It may be for that reason that some shares rate a higher mention on Sharechat - it doesn't mean people don't invest and make money in less talked about shares. Winning and losing depends on your entry and exit point, not on whether you invest in good or bad companies.
I think the most important key to making money on the sharemarket is patience.

disc. I'm still learning these lessons myself!
