Just what software is required? Our server is capable of handling many thousands of users simultaneously (we run the very solid Debian linux-based IRC server used for many of the huge public IRC networks). We have a java chat applet (at http://www.sharechat.co.nz/live.html) that works fine for most people; if people hit problems with that, IRC clients like mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) often works well. Not all sites use IRC and so if their applet doesn't work that's about it, but one of the reasons we chose IRC is so that we have lots of alternatives.. See my other post - the only common problem we're aware of is people behind a firewall. _______________________________________________________________________ Will Bryant, will@core-dev.co.nz cell +64 21 655 443 http://www.core-dev.co.nz/ Personal: http://www.core-dev.co.nz/will/ ShareChat Ltd. technical manager http://www.sharechat.co.nz/ [PGP 0x96A7F40A, FP 827F A2A9 C718 106D 8F80 E16E A244 D5F2 96A7 F40A] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.sharechat.co.nz/ New Zealand's home for market investors http://www.netbroker.co.nz/ Trade on Credit, Low Brokerage.
