[sharechat] contact energy
just continuing on about the recent coversations on Contact Energy (CEN)
i would have to agree with the questions about the effectiveness of the
buyback scheme, as really it has failed to stimulate growth in the share.
The loss of Paul Anthony and several GM is of a concern, but really is an
issue that shareholders can do little about.
I remind those that CEN does a have below market beta, is relatively a low
risk stock, and has a significant dividend (income) policy, i guess what i
am saying is that i would prefer to hold CEN as my bluechip, low risk, income
(dividend) investment rather than the likes of telecom, carter holt harvey
etc - mainly b'cos aside from the the aforementioned i agree with somone's
recent prediction of $3 by the end of the year.
Many of the hydro dams in NZ owned by Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power
etc have very low water levels in the lakes.....and this is potentially may
have a significant impact on the supply and ensuing price of electrcity in
the next 6-8 months.
Contact Energy does hold several key non-hydro generation assets which have
the potential to meet the upcoming demand, at a profitable price, even
despite the loss of Otahuhu B.
a penny for your thoughts.
