[sharechat] RE: Open questions to the NZSE
Thanks Mr Boyle,
You are right of course, I am assuming that things haven't changed from when I
was at the NZSE.
What used to happen when we put out an announcement that contained a dividend
is that it
would include the record, payment and ex dates in the announcement with the
amount and whether or not the dividend is fully imputed.
So I went to the Market Data Centre to have a look. The Full year release for
CMO (12/9) contains the record date but no payment or ex dates so not all of
the information was there. So very fair comment - complain it should be there
and you should be able to see it. So I went to look at the SKC full year
announcement (16/8) and in the announcement was the record and payable dates.
As a quick guide to what the listing rules contain on dividends, announcements
and annual reports - here goes:
- A record date is always the last business day of the week (almost always a
friday)
- The ex date is always the next business day (usually a monday) after the
record date
- The payment date can be whenever the company wants and if it was missed and
without seeing a copy of the weekly diary or ringing your broker or the
Exchange you can't be expected to know.
- A company is required by the listing rules to make their Full or Half year
announcement within 75 days of their balance date. Most companies just file
their report when it is ready and the NZSE gets them when they arrive without
any notice.
- Large companies like TEL, FLC etc often make an announcement as to when they
will release their information. These dates are in the Weekly diary and they
are published by the NBR and the Dominion. If you look at the announcements for
a company you can find these dates in advance and that's exactly how the
Exchange gets its information.
- Companies are contractually bound by the Listing rules to file their annual
report within 4 months of their balance date. They are also contractually
bound to suppy the Exchange with 3 copies.
You should be able to get this information from any brokers website under their
announcements.
I do hope this helps but the input at the Exchange end will dictate what each
annoucement contains.
Kind regards,
Sarah
