[sharechat] buying US stocks

From: Adam Rands <adam@iguana.co.nz>

I want to buy stock on the Nasdaq. (I can't lose my money fast enough at
the moment)

Should I use a US based broker - Datek, Etrade etc or pay the higher
brokerage rates and use a local broker (I am Australian based)

Dealing with a local broker (lets take Commsec as an example) means I could
fund my US trading activities in my native currency and get around hairy
"paper shuffling" issues (what are these issues - Commsec does not go into
detail).

Comsec's brokerage rate is high ($Au100) however is the extra cost worth
while or is it better to invest via a US broker.

Can anyone share their experiences..

Are there many sharechat users trading the US market - if so how do they do
it?

Cheers

Adam
