[sharechat] IRONY of TELECOM
Just been reading the article on Telecom, the free ISPs and the new
"unlimited charge" of $24.95 a month. I remember many saying how Telecom
screw us with prices but the irony here is that the other ISPs are going to
be squeezed. So Tel makes it cheaper for access (as everyone wants) but a
lot of the smaller ISPs go out of business. I seriously doubt whether these
free models can survive either, as banner advertising is not the way. I use
one now but dont use their homepage and have had one email on a product(and
interconnections fees are on the way out). Some ISPs have been ringing Ihug
worried about this. Telecom offering bundled call rates with the deal (cheap
weekend calling etc) While prices at Xtra were $39.95 these little guys
survived. At the end of the day, it seems the Jugganaut wins again with a
better service range and mass marketability. Also noted in the article that
prices were cheaper than Aus and US. Heres to bandwidth coming down but
whether it does the competition any good doesn't look likely.(who paid for
the cable) Big bad ol Telecom. (I suppose theyll get critisized now for
marginalising these guys)OH the Irony... opinions welcome.
