[sharechat] Proposed ASX/NZSX merger.
Hello Chatters,
I heard just the tail end of a radio interview on ABC today that made my
kiwi ex-pat hackles rise a bit. I have no idea who the interviewee was but
suspect that it may have been someone associated with the ASX.
I will try and repeat what was said of NZSX:
“Used to be about one tenth the size of ASX, now very much smaller than that”.
“NZSX now really between a rock and a hard place.....has to join with ASX to
survive”
“Has only one company of substance left (TEL)...... imagine how much more that
company might be worth if it’s primary listing was with ASX and Oz fund
managers therefore obliged to own part of it”.
“Some quite major companies, ie BRY, LNN, NUF etc, have shifted their primary
listing base out of NZ......more will surely follow”.
“Has no chance of attracting any major new listings”
“If it does not merge with ASX, it can only continue to marginalise itself
further and become even less significant than it is now”.
I don’t guarantee to have everything word for word, but that was the gist
of it. The guy was obviously a fiercly patriotic Ozzie.
When my hackles got back to normal and I thought about it a bit, I
unfortunately had to agree that most things he had said were probably right.
Food for thought huh?
Cheers
Murray
