Nasdaq fall and rate talk likely to hit local stocks

The local sharemarket is expected to fall this week, threatened by 
collapsing Wall Street technology stocks and the prospect of higher interest 
rates.

While the major US stock indicators all fell on Friday night, the
technology-intensive Nasdaq Composite Index was driven to its third-biggest 
weekly loss after a spate of disappointments in the sector.

At the same time, economists expect the Reserve Bank of Australia will be 
under pressure in coming months to lift interest rates, after reports showed 
the US economy was growing more strongly than expected.
