Sort of... CDMA comes in various forms.
 
What Telecom is currently rolling out is CDMA-1 or narrow band CDMA. Its a 2G (2nd generation) product. The 3G product is CDMA-2000 or wide band CDMA.

It's interesting to note that China Unicom recently canned it's CDMA-1 rollout stating that the wideband technology (3G) had become available far sooner than first thought and the 2G network would be obsolete before they could even get it switched on.

We have CDMA in Australia, it is a sort of second rate service at the
moment, used mostly by farmers because it has greater range.  Handsets are
bigger and clunkier and it has no speed advantage or sex appeal.  Are we
talking about the same systems ?
