[sharechat] TLS & Asia's mobile phone market

I suspect that Telstra is on the right track with its
foray into Asia as I have read in a Singapore
newspaper that the use of mobile phones to send and
receive information via the internet will drive the
next stage of development in Asia's fast expanding
wireless telecommunications market. 
Apparently by 2003, more than half of mobile phone
users in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan
will be tapping the web with their handsets. At
present, some 50% of the population in those countries
use mobile phones. 
Mobile phone systems, it seems, are preferred to
fixed-line networks because they are cheaper an
quicker to bring into operation and more convenient to use.
