I am licking my wounds at the moment over the loss of a considerable amount of money betting on the Wallabies. Wrong bet. Now your stockmarket might rally next week. NZ may have some of its "Joss" back. It was interesting to see the Matauri mill of CHH close. It had been running at a loss for four or so years. The company would be typical of many companies in NZ that are holding on by the skin of their teeth hoping for an uptick - which can never come (because of economy of scale issues). The sale of all the Fletcher companies will eventually result in further large redundancies in core industries. Your biggest single opportunity at the moment is to change your agriculture sector to organic. The resulting increase in revenue would be dramatic. But the fertiliser lobby-ists will knife that one in the gut. Organic farming would triple your revenue in agriculture which because of your inability to significantly add value to primary products would be very important. NZ recently made news up here with your soccer skills - nice one. Also interested to see that the last semi-decent school in the country, Auckland Grammar, is adopting off-shore qualifications. This will happen more as your educational standards fall further. I recently read a NZ report on its universities which show an alarming drop in the standards of education. Another 1.25 billion to Maoris over the next four years and a fourth full and final settlement to a particular tribe. When are you Kiwis going to wake up and realise you are being taking for a ride?
