If it will help you I can tell you that the NZSE 40 at 31st March was

1994    2073
1995    1998
1996    2150
1997    2237
1998    2289
1999    2143
2000   2054

Unfortunately I don't have the info going any further back. You could try
the NZ Stock Exchange on info@nzse.co.nz

I don't know what you are doing with your project but you need to remember
that the NZSE does not take into account dividends so if you wnat to work
out the total return on money invested in the market over a 10 year period
you will need to look at the NZ Gross Index which is adjusted for
didvidends.
