Mike, I'm sure your E-trade experience in UK will put you off them, numerous quotes on UK bulletin boards of them having problems. I can however recommend E -Trade in Oz after about one years use. For USA I've been very pleased with Ameritrade, direct portfolio updates daily to your mailbox & even full snail mail account info. Cost US$8 per trade.
