[sharechat] AIA tomorrow

Thanks Frank for the info which has gladdened my heart having sat on my AIA
shares and waited and waited for some good news. Many people mightn't realise
this but nearly 80% of AIA shares are owned by institutional investors with
only about 20% in the hands of small investors (like me). A little bit like the
Warehouse shares.

I understand too that the Auckland City Council's reluctance in the past to
sell its stakeholding in AIA was due to a bloc of councillors who were
"philosophically" opposed to the sale of assets irregardless of what evidence
was put before them. However, the trend set by other councils and the weight of
public opinion (and other councillors) looks set to see the Council change tack
on this occasion. Being an Auckland ratepayer, I can't see any other reason for
the sudden inclusion of the AIA shares issues on the agenda before its
originally scheduled May meeting date if Mr Bartlett didn't feel he had the
numbers to swing the vote.

Warren

Disclosure: I have AIA shares and consider them one of the cheaper gilt-edged
stocks on the NZ market at the moment.
