[sharechat] Teen investment stategy
Hi
I am one of the silent majority - referred to in recent postings. I've
broken that silence to ask for some advice. I'm 18 years old and about
to head down to Victoria Uni. I've been fascinated by the sharemarket
for ages and have invested all my earnings from part-time jobs - I now
hold AIA, IFT, MIDNZ, GPG and recently added CAH and finally AQL as well
as 2 holdings in a South African Finance Company and a South African
retailer - (Very good returns in current political environment for those
of you who didn't know, especially with currency considerations). I
obviously don't have piles of cash to throw around and my whole
portfolio is worth just under $20000 (much more if AQL does it's thing
!!!)
I have spent the recent school holidays putting together a plan that
will get me through Uni but also provide me with about $15000 per annum
to invest. I'm telling you all this because I want some advice.
I would really like to get into more short term positions, making a few
more technically based purchases while maintaining and adding to my
"value analysis" portfolio. I would also like to get some experience in
day trading and foreign exchange futures and options. But I need to do
all of this on a very tight budget. Can someone give me some ideas on
how to get started - software, minimum investments, good books etc. In
the past I've mainly used Craig & Co and a South African Brokerage firm
both of which I now realise are not economical for my small trades and
tend to treat me like a dumb kid - so any ideas on good brokers.
Any help you can give me would be great, I have found this forum really
interesting and value the opinions expressed in each posting. Thanks.
Oh, and does anyone in Wellington need a part-time assistant or
something (may even work for free to learn) - Hey it's worth a try !!!
I'm studying Law and Electronic Commerce (info that may help you place
me within your organisation - hahaha)
Thanks all
Scott Riddle
