> Phil, could you please tell me about OSX and could you please share > Apple US ticker. Ah yes... AAPL (Nasdaq); for 15 min delayed results and good charting take a look at: http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=AAPL&script=300&layout=9 Yesterdays close 97.75. > An Apple computer salesman told me that the latest > model i Mac had 50% of the Japanese market in December... It's possible that %50 of over-the-counter retail sales were iMac (which isn't actually %50 of the market) - it acheived amazing sales figures in the US on release in August (with AAPL at 44.00 or so)... check http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2164081,00.html IMac is the biggest selling single model PC ever for major retailer CompUSA... What does this mean for Renaissance? Hell knows. Their sole distributor status has been undermined by parallel importing but the unique nature of Apples product (it makes it's own boxes) and strong brands (over 99% consumer recognition in street surveys for "IMac") mean its harder for other importers to damage their longstanding relationship with the parent firm. It really comes down to management and the NZ consumer market. The Imac needs strong backing in the form of "take home plans" from major retailers here, similar to the Apple-backed US$29.99 per month from CompUSA. Imac at The Warehouse...? As for OSX, check Apple.com for specs and hype. Also OSX Server, the back-end Unix-based Server release is gaining large market share for high end applications like media streaming... and entertainment channels are where internet revenues are looking particularly promising. It is by far the most stable platform for this type of work. We run OSX Server to stream a net radio station at http://www.soundsnz.com/media.asp On release, OSX will be hands-down the best retail-level OS in the market: Unix backbone, totally Internet-immersed, streamlined file management, richly interactive and intuitive. Settling the Wintel/Mac argument for good, at least until Windows 2002 or whatever. Again, what does this mean for Renaissance? Well, it certainly can't hurt them. I know very little about the company's internal operations, but they're selling a product which is just plain excellent. Hope this ramble hasn't bored too many listmembers. I don't currently hold any RNS, but I have previously and probably will again soon. Up 5 today, though..
