Agreed, most funds perform badly in bad markets (because they buy into
"trendy" stocks) - I found that with NZFM, Jardine Fleming & Rothchilds.
But I found BT and MLC Platinum Global were fine because 1) they buy very
selectively on intrinsic value of each company and 2) these funds are
massive so they can fund very good research.
My recommendations:
1) avoid any fund smaller than $100million in size
2) avoid NZ-based funds
