Hi Brian During the crazy unit trust years of 1992-96 I invested into BT, NZFM, Rothchilds, Jardine Fleming. I found NZ based trusts hopeless cos of fund size (and therefore few staff researching) and tax treatment causing poor returns. The other three do great in bull markets but I found only BT coped with bear markets reasonably - the other two fell fast. My favourite BT funds are the large equity funds - Growth, International, American, European, Equity Imputation(Aust) & Pacific Basin. The first two are consistent at around 20% p.a. avg return over 5 years. The others are more volatile - returns varying 5 - 40% p.a. MLC Platinum Global is run by Kerr Neilsen who used to run BT research till he & some of his top staff moved to MLC - some of the other MLC funds seem to be large and 20% p.a. avg too.
